Welcome

THE TOURIST ORGANIZATION OF BELGRADE: HOW TO BEGIN AND CONTINUE DISCOVERING THE SERBIAN CAPITAL
The Ancient Town of the Future
During your stay in this charming metropole, in places that we recommend or many other places that we will not even mention, you will realize that you are mysteriously related to this town, much deeper and very hard to explain. After the first meeting, Belgrade stays with you. You can prepare your suitcases, announce your departure, check-in, leave to richer, more logic and more decorated towns, but you can never leave for real. There are people, towns and places to which we say „farewell“ but we only mean „’till next time“

Belgrade, a metropole on a very attractive geographic location, representing a huge economic and infrastructural potential, a town which is developing very quickly. A town which lives in a recognizable and attractive manner, with quality, style, a town with a huge perspective. Those were the main reasons that the Serbian capital got the title „town of the future of Southeast Europe“.
Belgrade has its old and its new face, its monuments of glorious past and its cheerful youth. But towns differ, just like people, with their soul and appearance, with their charm and direct character which makes them special. Some writers say that the beauty of Belgrade is in the smile of the people, in their irresistible character, their hospitality, their friendly attitude.
Belgrade is a special town, an authentic personality, a never-ending story. Its rich and tumultuous history, lasting for millenniums, left its traces, but also influenced the forming of a unique soul, as a symbol of different characters, high spirituality and endless cleverness.
Besides Athens, Belgrade is one of the oldest European towns, and we can say that the culture and alphabet of Vinča represent the First Europe.

THE MYSTERIOUS CONNECTION

Every Belgrade time machine will lead us to the very Centre of town, to its visible and invisible core, to the Belgrade fortress, to the point of all events during its long existence – historic, politic, social, cultural... Today, after all storms, passed and future, the Fortress is the favourite walk and meeting place of poets, artists and art lovers, dreamers and visionaries.
The most beautiful view of the Belgrade rivers and of the most fascinating mouth in Europe, of the Museum of Contemporary Art and of the endless Panonian plain, is the one from the Belgrade fortress. Kalemegdan park, as a part of the Belgrade fortress complex, is the biggest and the favourite one in Belgrade.
Near the Belgrade fortress is the Street of Knez Mihailo, the artery of Belgrade, which can be measured in metres of meetings, dear places and institutions. It lives for 24 hours, it is never empty, it is always the same but always different. Passer-bys, street musicians and singers, lady friends making plans while looking at the windows of elite shops. That is the everyday event of this street, the most popular Belgrade „corso“.
It was first mentioned as a street a few centuries ago and it grew along with Belgrade. Many of its old cafes, hotels and shops are an important part in the chronicles of town, and some new important places are becoming a part of them. In Knez-Mihailova Street we have common and only our special places. The first are in the town map and the others are in the hearts of the people of Belgrade.
This street leads you to Trg Republike, where stand the famous Belgrade monument, the one to Prince Mihailo Obrenović. On the edges of this central square the most important national culture institutions are located (National Museum, National Theatre).
Only a few hundreds of metres away from the square, the dynamic character and the rush of the metropole disappear. If you want to get to know the relaxing character of Belgrade, the charming and the witty, the cheerful and the happiness, the best thing is to go to Skadarlija, the bohemian quarter, the street of cafes, restaurants, a well known gathering place of the people from Belgrade and their guests. Different time passes there and you get the impression that you stepped out of time. The never-ending and everlasting spirit of Belgrade, the unusual philosophy of the life of this town, removing everyday rush and nervousness, leading you into a different, more calm, system, nostalgic in a charming and old-fashioned way.
Only four kilometres from the town centre are Savsko Lake and Ada Cinganlija, a former river island which is connected to the shore with two isthmuses, the favourite picnic area of the people of Belgrade and its guests. Spacious green areas, with a lake in the middle of the island, are completing the list of what one town must have. And Belgrade has a lot. The streets of Belgrade, its beautiful squares, buildings and places, its „domestic mythology“ are all in vain without special oasis of peace and nature such as Ada Ciganlija, the Great War Island, Košutnjak.
During your stay in Belgrade, on places that we have recommended you or on many other places that we will not mention, you will realize that we are connected to that town in a mysterious way, much deeper and very hard to explain. Who would know how the chemistry of those connections work, but we know the following: after the first meeting, Belgrade stays with you. You can prepare your suitcases, announce your departure, check-in, leave to richer, more logic and more decorated towns, but you can never leave for real. There are people, towns and places to which we say „farewell“ but we only mean „’till next time“.

Strategy
Tourism is one of the main developing orientations of Belgrade. Tourism is an important perspective of the capital and the whole country and therefore confirms a very serious thing – Strategy for the Development of Tourism, which is already in effect. There are many more things to do, but constant improvements are present.
